Parish Records

Records are kept of all baptisms, confirmations, marriages, receptions into the Catholic Church, and funerals, which have taken place at the Jesuit Church of the Sacred Heart since 1859. Certificates stating what is recorded in these registers can be provided on request. We can only provide certificates to the person to whom the data entry relates or to the parent of a child. If you have enquiries about historical research (relating to records more than 50 years old), please contact us at ejc@jesuit.org.uk

Baptism Certificates

There are occasions when you will be asked for a baptism certificate:

  • when your child joins a first sacraments programme to prepare for the Sacrament of Reconciliation (First Confession), Eucharist (First Holy Communion), or the Sacrament of Confirmation;

  • when you apply for a place at a Catholic school;

  • when you are getting married.

The baptism certificate is an official document which states what is recorded in the parish Register of Baptisms.

To obtain a baptismal certificate for your child or for yourself, please contact us by email (ejc@jesuit.org.uk), giving the full name, date of birth, date of baptism, and the address to which the certificate is to be sent. We will then send you a copy of the certificate by post (the certificate bears an embossed seal so, while it is possible to send by email as a pdf, many places will not accept an electronic version).

There is no charge for providing a baptismal certificate.

Confirmation Certificates

You will usually need a confirmation certificate if you are getting married in a Catholic Church.

The confirmation certificate is an official document which states what is recorded in the parish Register of Confirmations.

To obtain your confirmation certificate, please contact us by email (ejc@jesuit.org.uk), giving your full name, confirmation name, date of birth, date of baptism, date of confirmation, and the address to which the certificate is to be sent. We will then send you a copy of the certificate by post (the certificate bears an embossed seal so, while it is possible to send by email as a pdf, many places will not accept an electronic version).

There is no charge for providing a confirmation certificate.

Marriage Certificates

The marriage certificate is an official document which states what is recorded in the parish Register of Marriages.

Please email us (ejc@jesuit.org.uk), giving your full name, the date of the wedding, and the address to which the certificate is to be sent. We will then send you a copy of the certificate by post. It is possible to send the certificate as a pdf attachment by email but it bears an embossed seal which is not visible in the electronic version.

Please note that the marriage certificate issued by the church is not the same thing as your civil legal marriage certificate which is issued by a Register Office. You can search the records of marriages in Scotland online here.
