First Sacraments Programme

We run programmes to prepare children for the first sacraments: the Sacrament of Reconciliation (First Confession), First Holy Communion, and the Sacrament of Confirmation.

These programmes are for children who do not attend Catholic schools. Children at Catholic schools will be prepared for the sacraments in their schools and can celebrate first sacraments here at Sacred Heart Church or in other parishes.

Children resident in other parishes which do not offer a first sacraments programme are welcome to join the programme at Sacred Heart Church.

Preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation (First Confession) takes place in P3 (age 7/8); First Holy Communion in P4 (age 8/9); and Confirmation in P7 (age 11/12). Due to delays caused by Covid, or for other reasons such as families moving to Scotland from elsewhere where arrangements are different, children can be prepared for first sacraments at other ages also. We will adapt the programmes according to age and need.

Our first sacraments programme runs on Wednesdays from 5.30-6.15 for P3/P4. And from 6.30-7.15pm for P7.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation (First Confession) programme (P3) begins on 11 January 2023 with the celebration of first reconciliation on 25 March 2023.

The First Holy Communion programme (P4) begins on 29 March 2023 with first communions on Sunday 11 June 2023.

The Confirmation programme (P7) begins on 29 March 2023 with the Sacrament of Confirmation at Sacred Heart Church on Friday 19 May 2023.
