Confirmation

“By the sacrament of confirmation, the baptized are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.” (The Catechism of the Catholic Church, n. 1285)

The usual age to receive the sacrament of confirmation in Scotland is 11/12 years (Year P7 in the schools system). Children attending a Catholic primary school will usually be prepared for confirmation at school and receive it in the summertime in their own or a local parish (the bishop celebrates confirmation for a group of parishes each year and the church in which the liturgy is held rotates year by year). Children who attend non-Catholic schools, including independent schools, can enrol on our Confirmation Programme.

Confirmation can be given at any time to those who have, for whatever reason, missed the usual time for receiving the sacrament, including to adults. There will usually be some preparation. Please contact us for more information.
